“Rise Up, O Men of God” | HYMN of the week

Words: William P. Merrill  Music: William H. Walter Singers: Oklahoma Christian University Recorded: October 18, 2013 Rise up, O men of God! Have done with lesser things; Give heart and soul and mind and strength To serve the King of kings. Rise up, O men of God! His kingdom tarries long; Bring in the day of brotherhood, And end the night of wrong. Rise up, O men of God! The Church for you doth wait, Her strength unequal to her task; Rise up and make her great. Lift high the cross of Christ; Tread where His feet have trod; As brothers of the Son of man, Rise up, O men of God! listen here " Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. " 1 Corinthians 16:13 ESV

Google Flights | WEBSITE of the week

Image
If you're planning to take a flight somewhere, I highly recommend using Google Flights to help. After you enter the locations and dates,  Google Flights will display a variety of options from various airlines . You can see results for round trip, one way, or multi-city. You can limit your search by the number of stops, airline, outbound and arrival times, connecting airports, and flight duration.  With the price graph, you can move your cursor along the bar chart to see the varying prices for the length of trip you want (e.g., 21 days). Once you've made a selection, Google will sometimes make suggestions in the results. For example, if it's cheaper to fly out a day earlier or to fly into a different airport from the one you selected, it will probably tell you that at the top of the results. You can also track prices for a specific date/location selection—if you want to get emails when there are significant price changes. Once you actually select a flight, return fli...

“Farther Along” | SONG of the week

Image
Artist: Josh Garrels Album: Love & War & the Sea in Between Year: 2011 Farther along, we'll know all about it. Farther along, we'll understand why. So cheer up my brothers; live in the sunshine. We'll understand this all by and by. Tempted and tried, I wondered why the good man dies, bad man thrives, and Jesus cries cause he loves 'em both. We're all cast-aways in need of rope, hangin' on by the last threads of our hope. In a house of mirror full of smoke, confusing illusions I've seen. But where did I go wrong? I sang along to every chorus of the song that the devil wrote like a piper at the gate, leading mice and men down to their fate. But some will courageously escape the seductive voice with a heart of faith while walkin' the line back home. There's so much more to life than we've been told. It's full of beauty that will unfold and shine like new-struck gold, my wayward son. The deadweight burden w...

Romans 8 | BIBLE PASSAGE of the week

Image
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death. For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh; that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace; because the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God; for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be. Those who are in the flesh can’t please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God...

“The Children's Hour” | POEM of the week

Image
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow BETWEEN the dark and the daylight,    When the night is beginning to lower, Comes a pause in the day's occupations,    That is known as the Children's Hour. I hear in the chamber above me    The patter of little feet, The sound of a door that is opened,    And voices soft and sweet. From my study I see in the lamplight,    Descending the broad hall stair, Grave Alice, and laughing Allegra,    And Edith with golden hair. A whisper, and then a silence:    Yet I know by their merry eyes They are plotting and planning together    To take me by surprise. A sudden rush from the stairway,    A sudden raid from the hall! By three doors left unguarded    They enter my castle wall! They climb up into my turret    O'er the arms and back of my chair; If I try to escape, they surround me;    They seem to be everywhere. ...

“Forever” | SONG of the week

Image
Artist: The Gray Havens Year: 2018 So here we go, like mist and water that's here and gone. But here we'll stay on forever, be back someday. Look, all I know is I believe it's gonna change at the moment when the trumpets [plural?] blow. And all I see— all I see I believe is gonna change inside the walls of eternity. So here we go. So when I stand at that station to movin' on, and I find my step upon the doorway where the lights come from, look, all I know, is I'll be changed in a moment when I take that step, when I'm called back home. No end I'll know. Cuz forever is in my soul. It's in my veins. I think we know that the future's gonna be so bright. And when you turn my way, it's gonna fill my eyes forever. Forever is in my soul. It's in my veins, and it won't let go. "It is the secret signature of each soul, the incommunicable and unappeasable want, the thing we desired before we met our wives...

Paul's letter to the Philippians | LETTER of the week

Image
Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ; To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and servants: Grace to you, and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God whenever I remember you, always in every request of mine on behalf of you all, making my requests with joy, for your partnership in furtherance of the Good News from the first day until now; being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. It is even right for me to think this way on behalf of all of you, because I have you in my heart, because both in my bonds and in the defense and confirmation of the Good News, you all are partakers with me of grace. For God is my witness, how I long after all of you in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus. This I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may...

“O for a Faith That Will Not Shrink” | HYMN of the week

Image
Psalms and Hymns for Public and Private Use Words:  William Hiley Bathurst Music:  Carl Gotthelf Gläser Singers: Oklahoma Christian University Recorded: September 23, 2011 O FOR a faith that will not shrink Though press'd by many a foe ; That will not tremble on the brink Of poverty or woe : That will not murmur nor complain Beneath the chastening rod ; But in the hour of grief or pain Can lean upon its God : A faith that shines more bright and clear When tempests rage without ; That, when in danger, knows no fear ; In darkness feels no doubt : That bears unmov'd the world's dread frown, Nor heeds its scornful smile ; That sin's wild ocean cannot drown, Nor its soft arts beguile . . . Lord, give me such a faith as this, And then, whate'er may come, I taste even now the hallow'd bliss Of an eternal home. listen here " the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of...

“He Hears Our Cry” | POEM of the week

Image
by Martha Snell Nicholson God of the dawn of the ages, God of all future years, God of the winds and the waters, God of the whirling spheres; God of the storm and the tempest, God of the starry sky — God, I am calling to Thee; How canst Thou hear my cry? God of the hearth fires rising, God of the little home, God of all gardens growing, God of the fragrant loam; God of the broken hearted, God, Who art very nigh, God of repentant sinners, God, Thou hast heard my cry! "For  thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: 'I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.' " Isaiah 57:15 ESV
