O FOR a faith that will not shrink
Though press'd by many a foe ;
That will not tremble on the brink
Of poverty or woe :

That will not murmur nor complain
Beneath the chastening rod ;
But in the hour of grief or pain
Can lean upon its God :

A faith that shines more bright and clear
When tempests rage without ;
That, when in danger, knows no fear ;
In darkness feels no doubt :

That bears unmov'd the world's dread frown,
Nor heeds its scornful smile ;
That sin's wild ocean cannot drown,
Nor its soft arts beguile . . .

Lord, give me such a faith as this,
And then, whate'er may come,
I taste even now the hallow'd bliss
Of an eternal home.

"the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you."
Luke 17:5-6 KJV
