Of the Week

Created in September 2016, this 3D art piece is about 19 inches wide,  15⅝ inches high, and  ¾ inches deep. Pins are nailed into the painted piece of wood, and black string is wrapped around those pins to depict a musical score. The musical selection is the very ending of Amen, which is the very last chorus of Handel's oratorio Messiah. You can hear the specific section in this video from 7:04 to the end (you might want to turn down your volume). "And the four beasts said, Amen." Revelation 5:14

Love is symbolized by a heart. Joy is bright like the sun. Peace— like a river. Patience  is associated with waiting—hence, the hourglass. Kindness is demonstrated by an outstretched helping hand. Goodness is foundational. Faithfulness means that you continue forward without turning, like an arrow. Gentleness is symbolized with a gentle circular shape. Circles are gentle because they don't have sharp corners like other shapes. Self-control is the repression of one's own desires for the glory of God. So the shape's core points downward, but its sides point upward—"He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30) "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23 ESV
