“Easter Anthem” | SONG of the week

Image
by William Billings The Lord is risen indeed! Hallelujah! Now is Christ risen from the dead, And become the first fruits of them that slept. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah! And did he rise? And did he rise? Did he rise? Hear it, ye nations! Hear it, O ye dead! He rose, he rose, he rose, he rose, He burst the bars of death, And triumphed o'er the grave. Then, then, then I rose, Then I rose, then I rose, then I rose, Then first humanity triumphant Past the crystal ports of light, And seized eternal youth. Men all immortal hail, hail, heaven, All lavish of strange gifts to man, Thine's all the glory, man's the boundless bliss. "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept." 1 Corinthians 15:19-20 KJV

“Work” | POEM of the week

Image
by Henry van Dyke Let me but do my work from day to day,   In field or forest, at the desk or loom,   In roaring market-place or tranquil room; Let me but find it in my heart to say, When vagrant wishes beckon me astray,   "This is my work; my blessing, not my doom;   Of all who live, I am the one by whom This work can best be done in the right way." Then shall I see it not too great, nor small,   To suit my spirit and to prove my powers;   Then shall I cheerful greet the labouring hours, And cheerful turn, when the long shadows fall At eventide, to play and love and rest, Because I know for me my work is best. "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men" Colossians 3:23 ESV

Love is symbolized by a heart. Joy is bright like the sun. Peace— like a river. Patience  is associated with waiting—hence, the hourglass. Kindness is demonstrated by an outstretched helping hand. Goodness is foundational. Faithfulness means that you continue forward without turning, like an arrow. Gentleness is symbolized with a gentle circular shape. Circles are gentle because they don't have sharp corners like other shapes. Self-control is the repression of one's own desires for the glory of God. So the shape's core points downward, but its sides point upward—"He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30) "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23 ESV
